The J.D. power annual study aims at analyzing the answers given by owners whose vehicles are all three years old when it is performed. Hence, the 2019 edition of the study focuses on the reliability of 2016 models. The index that is then created, named PP100, reflects the complaint number from the respondents per 100 vehicles. It is applied to each model and to each brand, and, as a result, allows JD Powers to establish a reliability score for those owning a 2016 model.
Lexus is again ranked first this year with a PP100 score of 106. Porsche and Toyota are close seconds (same PP100 score of 108), while Chevrolet is third (PP100 score: 115) followed by Buick (PP100 of 118). At the very end, you will find Fiat, which comes last of all the manufacturers with a PP100 score of 249, just behind Land-Rover (PP100 Score: 221) and Volvo (PP100 score: 204). The performance of Lexus is more impressive since, for the first time, volume car manufacturers got a higher PP100 score than the premium ones (volume automakers’ PP100 score: 135 VS luxury automakers’ PP100 score: 141). Also, Lexus’ PP100 figures are way lower than the overall PP100 average score, which is 136. These results demonstrate the superiority of Lexus’ technology and know-how.
